Regional Courts Demand Instant Removal of Representative in Ceará, Brazil

On February 7, 2013, G1 reported that the Regional Electoral Tribunal (TRE) of Ceará has ordered for the second time the removal of Carlomano Marques (PMDB), convicted in December of 2012 for a vote-buying scheme. The courts sent the letter on Thursday to Zezinho Albuquerque (PSB), president of the state’s lower house, to remove Marques immediately. According to accusations from state prosecutors, Marques bought votes in his 2010 re-election campaign by means of his sister, Fortaleza city councilwoman Magaly Marques (PMDB), by trading medical care for votes.  Read Article
