Comptroller General of Brazil Creates Partnership with Cities to Fight Corruption

On January 28, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that the Comptroller General of Brazil, responsible for monitoring activities within public administration on the federal level, has opened up dialogue with mayors throughout the country to fight corruption.  The effort also has the support of President Dilma Rousseff.  Since August of the past year, 24 different cities under monitoring within the country are suspected of diversion of federal funds in the fields of health and education.  According to the Comptroller General, Jorge Hage, the office has fired 4,000 public servants since 2003 for irregularities in the function of public administration.  Read Article
