Policewoman on Motorcycle, First in Quito, Ecuador

  • According to Expreso.ec a group of policewoman will patrol the streets of Quito on motorcycles for the first time. This pilot program is part of the traffic police patrol. If successful, it could be implemented nationally.
  • The objective is that women will have more confidence in the police and support the women of the force says lieutenant Soraya Avalos.
  • Avalos, part of the policewoman squad, reports that no serious crimes against women have been reported so far.
  • Earlier, traffic patrols were exclusively policemen.
  • Ecuador has a history with high rates of gender violence and inequality.
