Ecuador: Over 30,000 emergencies reported over three day holiday

Quito, Nov 4 (Andes).-andes.info.ec reported aA total of 34,704 different kinds of emergencies were attended by security and rescue agencies during the three-day holiday for All Souls Day and the Independence of Cuenca, reported the Integrated Service Security ECU-911.

Only the Red Cross attended 656 eventualities, of which 43 corresponded to traffic accidents, 20 to civil violence, 588 to medical emergencies, and 5 to other reasons.

Until now, authorities have not issued a balance of passed and injured people during the vacation period, which initiated on Friday and ended this Sunday.

Nevertheless, a car accident reported by the police in the Papallacta-Pifo road left as a consequence four dead people, among which there was a 2 year old girl, and at least 18 wounded persons, who were immediately taken to hospitals in Quito.

In order to reduce accidents on the roads, the National Transit Agency conducted mechanical checkups to interprovincial transportations, and verified through breathalyzers that drivers have not ingested alcohol.

On the other hand, the police performed speed control, as well as security operations in roads and cities, and in points of massive crush of people, such as spas, parks, cemeteries, churches, and others.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces placed the deployment of 30,000 soldiers to provide security at weapons checkpoints and anti-crime patrols, with particular emphasis on the border with Colombia. Read Article
