Ecuador: Another Bus Bites the Dust, 14 killed, 30 injured near Otavalo

news24.com / Ecuador is going to a period of numerous bus wrecks and continued carnage of dead. Thirteen people were killed and 28 injured when a bus overturned on a highway between the Ecuadorian capital Quito and the northern city of Ibarra, authorities said on Monday. The accident was at 8:00 PM local time. There were twelve dead at the scene. The accident was in the vicinity of Otavalo, a large indigenous community and popular with tourists.

In July, 14 people were killed and 30 injured in another bus accident in the centre of the country.

Deadly road accidents are quite common in Ecuador. A non-governmental organization estimates that at least 13 people are killed and 142 injured in road accidents every day. Most accidents are caused by human error.  Read Article
