Two vessels seized in Colombia carrying 71 tons of illegal timber

The Colombian Navy intercepted two vessels carrying a combined amount of 71 tons of illegal timber on May 22, 2012, according to Radio Santa Fe. The ships were stopped in the Buenaventura Bay and are thought to have been travelling toward Satinga, Nariño. The first vessel, “Juan Ma,” was carrying 60 cubic meters of tangare wood, which weighed 70 tons. The second ship, “Inconfran,” was found with 470 cubic meters of chamoun wood, at a weight of one ton. They were detained for violating article 328 of the criminal code, which prohibits the exploitation of protected natural resources.
