Ecuador: Record of 110 tons of illegal drugs seized in 2016

andes.info.ec reported a total of 110.40 tons of drugs seized this year police which is the highest figure in the country’s history regarding drug seizure, the Ministry of the Interior. Of this figure, 96.06 tons were seized for international traffic and 14.34 tons for domestic traffic. According to estimates by the authorities the total of the seized alkaloids represent 3.86 trillion dollars.

In total, 100 organizations were involved in drug trafficking, 81 in micro-trafficking, 13 in drug trafficking and six in money laundering.
The places where the most drug was found were in homes, warehouses and collection centers, followed by ports and airports; high seas; Frontiers and finally in the possession of consumers.

During 2015, the operations carried out by both the Police and units of the Armed Forces allowed the capture of 79.2 tons of drug, an amount that added to the seizures made since 2007 gives a total of 410 tons of seized alkaloids in its Most cocaine, according to figures from the Ministry of Interior.

This amount far exceeds the 81 tons captured in 10 years of operation of the North American Advanced Control Station (FAO), in the Ecuadorian base of Manta, installed with the justification of fight against the drug traffic. Read Article
