Spain gives refuge to Colombian narco family with support of U.S. DEA

The family of Javier Antonio Calle, head of the Norte del Valle cartel in Colombia, has been granted asylum in Spain. This results from an agreement between the U.S. DEA, Spanish authorities, and Calle himself. Because he agreed to turn himself in to U.S. authorities, Spain has agreed to allow Calle, his parents, two sisters, two wives and four children to reside in Spain. His current residence is unknown; however, the family arrived in Spain more than a month ago. Calle had originally asked that his family be moved to the U.S., but visas were not provided. Spain agreed to house the family on the terms that the United States provide all the information Calle had shared about cocaine trafficking and money laundering in Spain.
