Chile: Virtual Kidnappings a Continuing Problem

The Chilean National Police and the Investigation Police (PDI) met to study the creation of a group specialized in the fight against virtual abductions, after detecting that this crime was rebounding in the last week, official sources said today.

“They are phone calls made by a prisoner from a penitentiary in Chile, they search for their victims at random or through the information on the Internet.” They then call the family, tell them they have a family member kidnapped and proceed to request

The crime arose in Chile for the first time in 2014 and made the leap to Spain the following year. Since then, each February has taken on special relevance, which has caused both countries to consider joining forces.Read Article
