Shootout in South of Quito, Ecuador Leaves One Dead, Three Wounded

ElComercio.com reports around 6 p.m. on Monday, July 25th, five men and a woman tried to rob an armored car that was transferring money from a bank located in a mall in the south of Quito. Witnesses say the security personal were attacked at the entrance of the bank as they were leaving with the money and a shootout between the two parties began. Police say the assailants abandoned their get-a-way car in the sector of San Bartolo, south of the city. About forty minutes after the incident, police and medics were at the scene. Authorities say during the shootout a guard was killed and three people were wounded, two guards and a female bystander. Police say quick response by the security team impeded the robbers from stealing the money. However, a witness says the female member of the group fatally shot the guard and fled with a bag of money.Read Article
