Santa Catarina, Brazil: Police Seize More Than Half a Ton of Marijuana

On March 20, 2013, Radio Liberdade reported that police in the state of Santa Catarina found more than half a ton of marijuana camouflaged in a truck.  The arrest was made in Mafra, in the north of the state.  According to the report, the truck failed to stop during a Federal Highway Police traffic stop, nearly running over an officer.  Police chased the motorist until he lost control of the vehicle.  After stopping, the man tried to flee on foot.  The truck and drugs were taken to the local police delegation, and the man will face trafficking charges.  Police will also question the car originally in front of the truck to see if he had involvement in the crime.  Read Article
