Salvador, Brazil: Police Operation Makes Arrests for Selling Counterfeit Ethanol Fuel

On June 13, 2013, Globo reported that a businessman and an accountant were detained during “Operation Ethanol” in Salvador, Bahia for distributing and marketing counterfeit ethanol fuel. Six companies are suspected of involvement in the scheme. Such illegal activity has resulted in a loss of R$ 383.4 million which will be compensated through taxes. The Department of Finance of the State of Bahia reports the companies involved have been monitored for fraudulent activity for about three years. Read Article
