Rural Farmers Cultivate Genetically Enhanced Marijuana, Cali, Colombia

•Rural farmers verified to El Espectador that in certain unnamed fields and greenhouses in Cali, a new kind of enhanced marijuana is being grown.
•The marijuana has increased THC content, which allows for the drug’s effects to be enhanced.
•Farmers have continued to cultivate the illicit crop because legal crops such as bananas and coffee have fluctuating prices.
•The enhanced marijuana sells for about 100,000 pesos (about $56) a kilo, which is 10 times more than regular marijuana.
•The authorities are concerned because FARC’s sixth front is almost completely financed by marijuana. Read Article
