Ecuador: President to send reform banning use of drugs in public spaces

ambito.com reported Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa announced that he will send a reform to the National Assembly (Parliament) to ban drug use on public roads , and stressed that this impediment should have already been applied to municipalities, just as they do With alcohol intake.

“Drug use is not a judicial problem ,” Correa said in his weekly report, which said that sending a consumer to jail would be like sending an alcoholic to those centers.

He added that there is a table in the country that indicates that, to be considered a consumer, a person can have a maximum of 10 grams of marijuana, but more than that amount, it becomes a micro-dealer.

Correa said that if the table of consumption is eliminated, “prisons will be filled” by consumers and pointed out that the use of drugs in public space should be avoided by municipalities, as they prohibit alcohol intake. Read Article
