ElComercio.com reports that today, Wednesday June 29th, the five suspects in the assault and shootout with policemen protecting a money transfer of $12,000 in the north of Quito yesterday, were in court for a arraignment hearing. The Ecuadorian Minister of the Interior, Jose Serrano was present to ask the court to prevent the release of the five suspects. One suspect died and an officer was critically wounded in the shootout that occurred two blocks from the Mariscal Sucre International airport. The assailants intercepted a police escort of a company’s money transfer to a bank in the north of Quito. Serrano says that the government will be involved in closely monitoring the case. He adds that if the court does not have enough evidence to hold the suspects, the government will work with the judges and prosecutors to make sure these criminals are not freed.Read Article
