Peruvian Government Incinerates over 5.2 Tons of Drugs

From lainformacion.com on June 6, 2013- Police in Peru, overseen by Interior Minister Wilfredo Pedraza, incinerated over 5.2 tons of various drugs that had been confiscated since April. Authorities incinerated 2.5 tons of cocaine base, 2.2 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, 400.8 kilos of marijuana, and 1.7 kilos of poppy. Pedraza stated that since the inauguration of President Ollanta Humala in 2011, Peruvian authorities have destroyed 59 tons of drugs in eight acts of incineration. The minister also said that the government would be establishing “special routes” wherein there would be greater control over products such as gasoline and kerosene, which can both be used as inputs in the drug creation process.  Read Article
