Nine former police officers convicted of drug trafficking in Venezuela

Nine former police officers in Venezuela were among 12 individuals arrested in 2008 for drug trafficking in Apure. Because of evidence produced at their trial, they have been convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to 9-10 years in prison. According to El Nacional, they had used a clandestine airstrip to transport drugs. Some of the suspects were charged with embezzlement, criminal association, and corruption. One of the prisoners attempted to bribe officials for his release. Some of the former officers were also charged with misuse of military uniforms. Read Article
