Ecuador: 16 of 18 defendants guilty in Petroecuador bribery,corruption case

elcomercio.com reported that a criminal court found 16 of 18 defendants in the Petroecuador bribery, corruption scandal guilty. Ten of the defendants were sentenced to five years in prison. They include former officials Carlos Pareja Yannuzzelli, Álex Bravo, Paquita de Mora and Arturo Escobar. The ten must pay $25 million in reparations. In addition six private business people deemed accomplices in the scheme who benefited from Petroecuador contracts were sentenced to 30 months and must pay $12.5 million.
