Interior Minister of Ecuador admits country is used for drug trafficking

José Serrano, Interior Minister of Ecuador, admitted in a public news interview that his country serves as an intermediary along an international drug route operated by exterior narco-traffickers. Serrano stated the drugs arrive from the north or south of the country and are then directed toward Mexico, Diario Norte reports. Many members of the cartels trafficking through Ecuador have hidden in the country, which has leaded to several arrests According to Serrano, the national strategy addresses these links. Security officials will continue to attempt to disband intermediary gangs throughout the country. Serrano said Ecuador has seen a substantial increase in trafficking arrests in recent years.
