Homicide leading cause of violent death in Colombia

A report published by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, through its National Reference Center on Violence, states that the homicide was the leading cause of violent deaths in Colombia during 2011.
According to the report, during 2011 there were 23,742 violent deaths across the country. The 60.54% of these, 14,374 words of homicides occurred. 21% of these, 4984 cases were caused by traffic accidents. A 12% or 2785 events, was caused by other accidents, and 7%, or 1599, are the result of suicide. Although the report shows a decrease compared to 2010 figures, because in that year there were 15,856 homicides, traffic accidents 5168, 2,960 suicides, accidental deaths and 1,642 throughout the country.
