Federal Prosecutors Charge Journalist, Professor, Students with Drug Trafficking in Bahia, Brazil

On January 14, 2013, NE10 reported that federal prosecutors have charged a group of individuals with drug trafficking in Vitória da Conquista, a city about 500 kilometers southwest of Salvador, in the Brazilian state of Bahia.  The activity was discovered through correspondences between branches of the Federal Police in the area.  A package was left anonymously in the police’s mailbox, containing LSD.  The package was said to be sent from a Brazilian student based in Barcelona, headed for Brazil.  The drug was packaged by the professor, then sent to the journalist in Aracaju, capital of the Brazilian state of Sergipe.  Prosecutors say the offenders could face between 5 and 15 years in prison.   Read Article
