Federal Government Creates Religious Diversity Committee in Brazil

On January 24, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that the federal government, led by cabinet minister Maria do Rosário, established on Monday the National Committee on Religious Diversity.  This move comes in commemoration of the Day to Combat Religious Intolerance, which is observed on the same day.  The number of accusations of religious intolerance skyrocketed this past year, from 15 incidents in 2011 to 109 in 2012.  The committee will be made up of various representatives of different ministries within the Presidential Cabinet, as well as representatives of civil society.  Read Article
