Ecuador: New Law Changes Day Some Holidays Fall On through 2020

Posted on December 20, 2016 • Filed under: Ecuador, Ecuador Emergency, Ecuador Travel reported the National Assembly passed the new Law on Public Holidays which provides, inter alia, the transfer of the holidays that coincide with a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) or a weekday (Tuesday, Wednesday And Thursday) to Monday or Friday. The law will apply to the Christmas break and end of 2016. So this year, holidays of December 25 and January 1, 2016 , which fall into Sunday- moved to Monday December 26 and January 2 respectively. Another holiday date during 2017 will be amended law will be that of the Battle of Pichincha (Wednesday 24 May) will happen to Friday 26 March. On the other hand, the day of rest by the First Cry of Independence (Thursday 10 August) will be on Friday 11. Out of these, there would be no changes in the dates 2017 furlough. The bill regulating national and local holidays was approved on December 13, 2016 in the Plenum of the National Assembly with 84 votes in favor and two against. In 2019, Labor Day will also have a transfer on Wednesday May 1 to Friday 3 because, according to the law passed in the Assembly, holidays fall on days Wednesday and Thursday should be delivered every Friday of the same week . This, however, does not apply for the 1st of January, the 25th of December and the Tuesday of Carnival. On May 24, 2019 falls on a Friday, so the holiday of the Battle of Pichincha will not be moved to another date in that year. However, rest e l First Cry of Independence (Saturday August 10, 2019) itself will be modified as it will be on Friday August 9 as specified in the Act. The same applies to the Independence of Guayaquil in that year moved from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 October. While the Day of the Dead and Cuenca Independence holidays will be held on Friday, November 1 and Monday, November 4 respectively. By decree of President Rafael Correa , in the 2020 New Year holiday it includes on Monday 30 and Tuesday December 31 2019 bridge holiday. In that year, the only holiday to modify its date of celebration will be that of the Battle of Pichincha that moves from Sunday 24 to Monday 25 of May according to the Law. The proposal approved yesterday Feriado Act was sent to the Executive for observations. The project would be 11 days off nationwide more local one. The holidays will not be recoverable, so that the sectors that can not stop their activities have two options: Try other days for furlough or pay workers for the days worked.
