Ecuador Oil Spill Update: tanker loadings, oil exports continue

platts.com reporte that tanker loadings and oil exports at Petroecuador’s Balao port terminal are continuing despite ongoing cleanup efforts in the aftermath of the crude spill discovered Tuesday, the company said Wednesday. Petroecuador said it has declared an emergency due to the spill, which will hasten cleanup efforts. The Balao terminal is near Esmeraldas on Ecuador’s Pacific Coast. The spill was caused by a rupture in a supply hose near a buoy six km offshore as the loading of a tanker named Santiago was coming to an end. The Santiago’s shipment was destined for delivery to the La Libertad refinery on Ecuador’s southwestern Santa Elena peninsula. Read Article
