Ecuador: Mafias fighting for territory inside prisons

Intelligence agents agree that in the country’s prisons, drugs, alcohol, weapons and cell phones are bought and sold by dealers networks run by mafias. These groups even vie for control of prisons, which leads to “strong govern disputes in the halls.” The researchers do not rule out that the facts of violence in the country centers have originated precisely that intention to manage key areas within the prisons.
