Ecuador: Health Officials Offer Two Hypotheses for Alcohol Contamination

According to ElUniverso.com the meeting of Ecuadorian heath officials over the past weekend ended with two hypotheses concerning the altered alcohol that has cause 24 deaths in Ecuador. The first hypothesis is that the person who is responsible for making the alcohol is badly educated on how alcohol is made. The second is that the person is making alcohol with full awareness that they are adding methanol into the mixture. The Health Ministry confirmed on Sunday July 17th that the alcohol consumed by festivalgoers contained methanol commonly used in paints and solvents. Authorities announce they have arrested Ruben Navas in Puebloviejo, in whose house police confiscated several tanks of alcohol containing the methanol mixture. Also, health officials confirm that a second death in Tungurahua due to altered alcohol was recorded on Sunday. Authorities have released 17 names of victims of alcohol contamination.Read Article
