Ecuador: Elite Police Force Results on Crime Released Next Week

According to ELUniverso.com the Ecuador’s Minister of the Interior, Jose Serrano announced that along with the elite police groups implemented by the national police, a plan called “safe circuits” will be exercised in an effort to reduce levels of crime. The elite police groups have been in place for about 21 days, however in Guayaquil, robberies and assaults on the population have not decreased, along with express kidnappings. Police say that in the last week 141 more cases of robberies and assaults have been reported than in the same period in 2010. The minister says that the operations will begin in Quito and Guayaquil. “Safe circuits” will include patrols on foot, in vehicles and with motorcycles. These patrols will be performed in a 4-kilometer2 area, encompassing about 5,000 inhabitants. Guayaquil police are going to begin 47 “safe circuit” patrols.Read Article
