Cuiabá, Brazil: Corrupted Police Officials Involved in Drug Trafficking Scheme

On June 27, 2013, a police commissioner and a civil police investigator were both arrested during ‘Operation Destruction’ in Cuiabá for drug trafficking association. The two men are accused of protecting drug traffickers and assisting in negotiations to release them in return for benefits from the drug leaders. The investigation began seven months ago in which police were able to seize more 430 kilograms of drugs. The men face two to eight years of prison in addition to a fine.
