Cuenca Ecuador: 15 murders reported through early August 13′

Authorities blame alcohol consumption as contributing factor in some of the deaths.

Elcomercio.com.ec reported that since January this year until early August, Cuenca 15 violent deaths recorded. At least three are directly related to alcohol consumption and the acts were committed with a knife, according to the National Police.
The consumption of liquor The Third Survey on Drug Use by the Consep indicates that consumption of liquor is a rising trend among students nationwide. The average age of first use of alcohol in 2005 was 13.7 years, while in 2008 dropped to 12.8 years. In those same years, the percentage of consumption increased from 53.9% to 79.4% among students from Ecuador. Read Article
