Costa Rica, Pedestrians Leading In Traffic Fatalities

Of the 57 traffic fatalities this year, 15 were pedestrians, the leading cause of traffic deaths. Although the Ley de Tránsito calls for a fine of ¢50.000 for imprudent pedestrians (jaywalkers), the fine is rarely applied and the only concern of pedestrians is to get to the other side as fast as possible, with no concern for their safety or others.
