Costa Rica, Minister of Health closes all operating rooms at Costa Rica’s largest state hospital

The Ministerio de Salud (Ministry of Health) issued an order to close, gradually over the next four months, all of the 15 operating rooms of the Hospital San Juan de Dios (HSJD) due to deterioration.
Costa Rica’s largest state hospital will be without operating rooms in the coming months as the Ministerio de Salud orders a gradual shutdown of all 15 operating rooms and CCSS officials say it will take a year to complete renovations. The order was issued by the Área Rectora de Salud del distrito de Mata Redonda, San José, after finding leaks in walls and floors and ceilings in poor condition, according to Wagner Ramírez Ávila, head of the Section of Surgery at state hospital.
