Chile: traffic deaths at lowest level in sixteen years

A total of 734 people died in Chile in traffic accidents during the first half of 2012, the lowest in the last sixteen years, said the Chilean Government.

Transport Minister Pedro Pablo Errazuriz, presented the results of the first semiannual report on road safety this year, in which 95 people died in car crashes less that between January and June last year.

Among the 734 people who died, 272 were pedestrians who were struck, one of the most common circumstances in traffic accidents in Chile.

During the first six months of the year there were 28,933 accidents, which represents a decrease of 7% compared to the same period in 2011. Read Article
