Argentina, Wheat export quota raised to 200 thousand tons per port

Posted on June 8, 2011 • Filed under: Agriculture, Argentina

A decision made yesterday by the Department of Agriculture will allow 200 thousand tons of wheat to be exported at the Bahía Blanca port starting next Monday, according to cronista.com. Another port will be opened later in the month that will be able to export another 200 thousand tons. Officials expect the new allotted shipment amount will fill the 2010/11 quota for wheat exports. The total harvest last year was 14.7 million tons with a 1.25 million surplus from the previous year. Planting for the next crop season has already begun. The Department also authorized yesterday a payment of compensations for the controversial National Bureau of Agricultural Trade Control (ONCAA) agency that was dissolved earlier this year but still owed money to various food and agriculture companies.
