U.S. Citizen Jailed in Ecuador for Drug Charges still waiting for day in Court

themoreheadnews.com/Shayla Menville reported It has been four months since Dennis Walling left Morehead to fly to Ecuador for what he thought would be a life changing job interview.

He was arrested at the airport as he was leaving the country when drug dogs marked his suitcase.

Walling and his family claim he was unknowingly used as a drug mule. He has been awaiting his first hearing since April 21 and was told he would see a judge by May 21.

Dennis Walling said that he talks to his attorney at least once a week and while he has been moved to a prison with better conditions, he wants to come home.

“First of all, I want people to understand that I am innocent and, furthermore, people are still being tricked into coming here. Another American was arrested on Tuesday under extremely similar circumstances,” said Dennis. “I am in Carcel Four Prison, which is much better but I am still responsible for my medicine and it is a very lonely place because so few people speak any English.”

The family has sent thousands of dollars every month to buy his food, clothes, medicine and pay for phone calls. They have a bank account set up at The Citizens Bank for anyone wishing to donate but are asking more for prayers and pressure on lawmakers to help bring awareness to Dennis’ plight.
