57,000 in Mexico’s armed forces assigned to antinarcotic duties

During 2011, the Armed Forces assigned to 118 000 569 soldiers and sailors to guard the country. Of these, 57 000 871 through the streets and various parts of the country to participate in high impact operations against drug traffickers, reveals the Fifth Report of Implementation of National Development Plan (NDP).

Only the Ministry of National Defense, for 2010, increased 5.5 percent the number of elements involved in operations against the cartels, including 43 regional scope.

Meanwhile, the Navy increased 23.2 percent naval operations against organized crime.

Delivered to the Senate and House of Representatives, the document states that the presence of the armed forces against the cartels is concentrated in 22 states, and that only seven states soldiers and sailors operate together against organized crime.

The seven entities are referred to Veracruz, Colima, Oaxaca, Nayarit, Chiapas, Guerrero and Puebla. Read Article
