147 People Arrested in Santa Catarina, Brazil, Linked to Recent Attacks

On February 19, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that police conducting a massive operation in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina arrested 147 people since last weekend with possible links to the attacks.  On Tuesday they arrested Maykon Aurelio Saturnino, 29, in Florianópolis, the capital, believed to be the ringleader of many of the attacks.  Maykon is the brother-in-law of Rodrigo Oliveira, known trafficker in the state, and leader of the Primeiro Grupo Catarinense (PGC), an organized crime syndicate with links to the São Paulo Based Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC).  Over the past three weeks, police have registered 111 attacks on buses, cars and buildings in 36 municipalities throughout the state.  Read Article
