13% of drugs seized in Ecuador results from trafficking in Quito

From January to May of 2012, the anti-narcotics police force in the Quito area seized one ton and 603,858 grams of drugs. This is a result of 250 operations. This amount represents 13 percent of the national amount of seized drugs and includes 11 cases of significant quantities in Quito, El Comercio reports. Smaller quantities were found in various homes, clandestine workshops, and business locations. Several people were arrested for selling drugs on motorcycles in city streets. Freddy Ramos, provincial director, urges citizen cooperation in order to better allow officials to investigate drug concerns. Read Article
