A new trend among teenage girls has evolved in Ecuador. Called “Tampax on the Rocks”, young women are dousing tampons with liquor and then using them in their private areas to become intoxicated. Extra.ec recently reported this activity and that it is an apparent attempt to disguise using alcohol from their parents or authorities. The newspaper contacted several doctors who had not heard of any cases but, one doctor has treated at least two juveniles who had emergency situations after ingesting via this method. The doctor reported that using alcohol in such a manner can rapidly impact the PH acidity of the vagina and create serious infections. This method of alcohol use may also contribute to infertility by increasing the occurrence of yeast infections.

A physcologist reported to extra.ec that many young people learn of such trends via the internet and that parents need to be vigalent in the monitoring of their children. It has been reported that this form of alcohol use has been reported in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and the United States. Read Article
