Violent Weekend in Curitiba, Brazil, Metropolitan Area: 13 Deaths

On February 24, 2013, Gazeta do Povo reported that in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, Paraná, 13 deaths were recorded over the weekend, including the death of a twelve year-old girl.  The murders were spread throughout the area, but half of the deaths occurred in Curitiba (3) and Pinhais (3).  Noteworthy was the death of the girl, Rosana Gervásio Rodrigues da Silva, who was killed after a home invasion where the assailants were looking for her stepfather, a man claimed to be involved in drug trafficking.  The report also notes that five children drowned Sunday in Colombo, in the metropolitan region, in a local swimming hole.  Read Article
