Vatican Wants Brazilian President Dilma at First Papal Mass

On March 14, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that Vatican officials, excited over the election of a Latin American to the papacy for the first time in history, are inviting heads of state from every Latin American country to share in Pope Francis’ first Mass.  Sources from Brasília say that Dilma’s presence is no guarantee, and that Latin American leaders will now have to put up with a pope who remained “silent” during various military dictatorships that existed in the region during the 1960s and 1970s.  Read Article
