UPDATE: Quito, Pichincha Forest Fire

ElComercio.com reports that at 3:50 p.m. sixty firefighters had managed to control the wildfire burning on a slope of the Pichincha volcano. Officials say that the flames consumed about 5 hectares of land and shrubs. Firefighters report using branches to quell the flames since the location of the fire was inaccessible to their vehicles. City officials say that this is the first medium-scale forest fire that has been recorded this year.Read Article
