U.S. increases military presence in Central America

This weekend it was revealed that agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration killed a suspect during an operation in Honduras. The agency says it is the first time his agents kill someone in Central America since they began participating in counternarcotics missions in the region. And there are several analysts who claim that, for the first time since the Cold War, is increasing U.S. interest in Central America, this time on account of the war on drugs. High rates of homicide and the presence of cartels and criminal gangs have not only led to the creation of new forms of assistance, but also a 75% increase in annual financial support that Washington intended since 2008 to the region.
