U.S. accuses former Chief of Security in Colombia of drug conspiracy

Mauricio Santoyo, former chief of security under President Alvaro Uribe from 2002-2006 and retired police general in Colombia, has been accused by the United States of drug conspiracy. La Republic reports that the United States believes Santoyo conspired to bring cocaine into the country with the help of assassins and narco-traffickers from 2000-2008. It is thought he provided money to drug traffickers that was used for bribery. Santoyo is also accused of sharing confidential political information. Such acts are considered a betrayal of anti-narcotics operations in the United States and Colombia. A court in Virginia filed the charges against Santoyo, where he will defend against the accusations. Read Article
