Ecuadorinmediato.com reports that Peruvian authorities discovered 85 acres of land, valued at 25 million soles, dedicated to the production of marijuana. Authorities discovered the land in the annex of Pueblo Libre in the Pataz province. Drug traffickers moved about 800 kilos of marijuana monthly, police say. The marijuana was concealed in public transportation and individual production vehicles while transported to Ecuador and Chile. Peruvian authorities say drug dealers signed a ‘strategic alliance’ with peasants in this area to convert crop growing from maize, potato, and wheat to cannabis. In return, drug traffickers provided technical and financial support. Police say that the leader of the drug ring is called “Whiskers.” He finances and makes agreements with locals to grow the drug. Whiskers and his partner were arrested in 2008 in Lima. They were released due to insufficient evidence. Police say the two are still at large and residing in Trujillo.Read Article
