Sullana, Peru: Bar Owner and Patron Arrested for Human Trafficking

On August 12, 2013 La Hora Noticias reported the arrest of a bar owner and patron in Sullana on charges they were forcing a 16-year-old girl to work at the bar. Orgelinda Ángeles Salazar and her customer Servando Nole Méndez were originally taken to the police station for questioning following an incident where Nole Méndez refused to pay her tab and broke several bottles of beer. However, during the interrogation proceedings which included testimony from the 16-year-old girl, police later discovered that the two were forcing the girl to work at the bar. According to the victim, the two suspects had tricked her into working at the bar after promising her work harvesting bananas.
