Strong earthquake shakes Costa RIca September 5, 2012

Nacion.com reported a strong earthquake struck the country this morning, with an epicenter at 8 km. northeast of Samara, Guanacaste. The National Seismological Network reports a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale. The quake occurred at 8:42 am and is reported with great force throughout the Central Valley and the Pacific coast. It had a depth of between 15 and 40 kilometers.

Equipment and correspondents of The Nation reported structural damage to buildings, trade and some public works, mainly in the Pacific. In the capital there were evacuating the main public buildings, scenes of panic and suspension of services by temporary closure of some institutions and businesses. Read Article
