Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Suspects Accused of Raping American Tourist Attend Court Hearing

Terra reported on May 21, 2013 that the Criminal Court in Rio de Janeiro held a hearing on Monday about the rape case of a female American tourist inside a van on March 30 of this year in São Gonçalo, Rio . The four suspects who remained silent in court, are charged with rape, robbery, extortion, and corruption. They will receive a sentence in two months. During the hearing, prosecution witnesses began the story when the American girlfriend and French tourist entered the van which was soon robbed by the suspects. The robbers forced everyone to leave the van except for the tourists. In addition, four prosecution witnesses stated that the suspects “laughed sarcastically” during the rape.Read Article
