Quito Ecuador: Possible new modus operandi by young thieves

Reported by abritinecuador.com….Two boys around 14 years of age approached me on Avenida 24 de Mayo today shoving Justin Beiber (!) posters in my face, and demanding 50 cents each for them. I immediately backed away as Uriel, the Colombian builder who fixed the roof of the house this week, experienced a similar thing last Sunday, and had his cell ‘phone lifted while distracted. My wallet and ‘phone were intact but my camera case, attached to my belt, was unzipped. Fortunately the camera was still inside. This seems to be a new modus operandi of robbery in Quito, or at least one I’m not familiar with. So please be warned because these kids are very adroit. Read Article
