Quito, Ecuador: Human Trafficking and Illegal Adoption Behind Child Disappearances

On September 10, 2013 El Comercio Noticias reported the case of an organization in Ecuador dedicated to locating the biological parents of individuals who had been illegally adopted as children. Since 2009, Reencuentro has made contact with 12 alleged victims of illegal adoption.
According to Prosecutor Tania Moreno, cases of child disappearances in Ecuador often involve child trafficking networks, pornography, illegal adoptions and human trafficking. One of the members of Reencuentro, Francisco Guayasamín, suffered a similar fate when he was adopted from an orphanage at the age of 5 and later forced to work as a domestic servant in the house of his foster family.
