Piura, Peru: Demuna Stresses Need for Treatment of Trafficking Victims

On June 28, 2013 RPP Noticias reported that, according to a representative of the Municipal Ombudsman’s Office for Children and Adolescents (Demuna) of Piura, Ludmila Facho, to date they have treated 130 cases of violence against women and provided psychological treatment for 1,300 people.

Due to the latest cases reported on human trafficking in the northern region, Facho stressed the urgent need to provide psychological treatment to victims, as the trauma could lead to depression and subsequent suicide. According to the representative, most of these crimes have been reported in the provinces of Talara, Paita and Sullana. Read Article
